Breaking life's bondages through God's words

LELAND CORE MINISTRIES

Preaching the Word of God

Preaching is declaring God’s truth in Jesus, to the praise of his name God’s truth is declared through the preacher, and it’s meaning is brought home to those who listen. Preaching, though, is ultimately divine activity. J. I. Packer says that it is “the event of God himself bringing to an audience a Bible-based, Christ-related, life-impacting message of instruction and direction through the words of a spokesperson.”

TOWARDS LIGHT AND BEYOND

Gun violence in the US kills more black people and urban dwellers

Gun violence in the African American community is a national public health and safety issue and should be treated as such. Strategies are necessary to stem the rate at which black men are murdering each other. The American Journal of Medicine reports that homicide is the leading cause of death among young African American men. More than 85 percent of black homicide victims are shot and killed with guns. These facts are both appalling and unacceptable. An important part of ending the gun violence epidemic is to reduce homicides in the African-American community. Leland Core Ministries are focused on bringing God’s peace into the heart & mind of man… Allow the word of God to work and God receive the peace that surpasses all man understanding.

Story that inspires

The Origins of Sagging Pants

Young men in America began wearing sagging pants during the 1990’s. Unlike other fads that come and go this one has stuck around for 30 years. The origin of this fashion statement has a dark history that many people might not be aware of. It began when Africans were first enslaved in America and derived from a custom referred to as “Buck busting” or “Buck breaking.” These terms initially referred to taming wild horses but southern plantation owners used these phrases to refer to black males who were just as human as they were.

This practice was utilized to “break in” defiant black male slaves as if they were untamed beasts. It was also supposed to deter other slaves from going against their masters. Unruly black men would be taken to a public place where all the other slaves were watching and told to lower their pants and bend forward. At that point, the master would brutally rape the man. After this the act of violation the slave would be forced to wear his pants with no belt and allow them to sag, as evidence he had been “ busted” or “broken in’.
